The new "NATIONAL
MARITIME MUSEUM of the Gulf of Mexico"
is scheduled to open in the year 2011.
Will the museum have a display that depicts the construction of 102 T2
Tankers during WWII?
They were built by the Alabama Drydock and Shipbuilding Company
See: http://www.t2tanker.org/ships/t2tanker.html
Click on "ALABAMA DRYDOCK"
One tanker was AO-141 Sappa Creek
The museum could use the
model of USS TAMALPAIS
AO-96 See display MODEL
BUT; there is another class navy oiler that could used to describe the
importance of oilers.
The AO-143 Class MODEL
3 were scrapped at Brownsville
- 3 are in Suisun
Bay
WHY! - Because they were the 1st oiler designed specifically for
supporting a task force
Because they were the 1st to be designed with a streamlined silhouette.
Because they were used to develop the important techniques used for
UNREP today.
